About Stable Steps:

Who Are We?

Stable Steps: Therapeutic Equine and Animal-Assisted services, Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that pairs clients with equine partners to provide much needed mental health and learning services.

**We are currently ONLY working with equine partners but will be adding additional animal partners to our program soon so stay tuned**

Why Horses?

Horses are great partners as they are sensitive to the environment, non-judgmental, react to our body language, and pick up on cues making them great partners in this healing journey.

How Does this work?

We work along with trained Licensed Mental Health Counselors to assist children, teens, and adults in this unique approach to therapy.

Contact Us

We currently partner exclusively with Turning Leaf Mental Health Counseling Services, PLLC for all mental health services. To participate, individuals must complete a screening and enrollment process to determine if services are an appropriate fit. If you are interested in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) or Equine Assisted Learning (EAL), a member of our partner organization, Turning Leaf Mental Health Counseling Services, PLLC, will contact you to gather relevant information, schedule an intake session, and assess whether EAP/EAL services align with your needs.

Certifications and Training Models

PATH International

Stable Steps incorporates the PATH International Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL) model within our Equine Services and Activities. This service ensures that all equine-assisted mental health and learning experiences are supported by a trained equine professional who prioritizes horse welfare, client safety, and intentional human-horse interaction.

The Equine Specialist collaborates with licensed mental health professionals and educators to facilitate ground-based equine activities that promote emotional growth, skill development, self-awareness, and resilience. The Equine Specialist is responsible for monitoring equine behavior, maintaining safe environments, and supporting meaningful therapeutic engagement between participants and horses.

Through adherence to PATH International standards, Stable Steps remains committed to ethical practice, safety, and excellence in equine-assisted services.

Ok Corral Series

Mental health professionals affiliated with Stable Steps are working with staff or have completed formal training or are working with staff that have completed these requirement. Certified professionals have completed their training in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy through programs developed by Greg Kersten, founder of EAGALA and creator of the O.K. Corral Series. This training emphasizes a structured, experiential, and team-based approach that integrates licensed mental health practice with equine-assisted interventions.
